Average Time spent in Tasks in Our Lives

February 2nd, 2010

Table in below shows the average time we spend on the tasks in our lifetime. I don’t know who makes the list but it sounds scary to know people spend 10 years in their lives by watching television on average.

Activity Time spent
Wearing shoes 8 days
Waiting for traffic lights 1 month
Getting haircut 1 month
Calling someone 1 month
Waiting in escalator (metropolitan areas) 3 months
Brushing teeth 3 months
Waiting for the bus/metro (metropolitan area) 5 months
Taking a shower 6 months
Reading a book 2 years
Eating 4 years
Working (for salary) 9 years
Watching TV 10 years
Sleeping 20 years

This table doesn’t include the time spent on playing games. Adding those numbers shows that we spend most of the times for daily activities. In the rest of the time, we need to be careful to invest our time to better things just like in our money.

Estibot beta version is ready!!!

January 20th, 2010

Estibot has been one of the best and free domain appraisal service in the internet. You can easily learn how much domains worth by not requiring any login, subscription fee, etc. The new version brings more features that most domain parkers wanted. One of the best feature is to able to see whether the extensions of given domain name has been registered. This feature is great when searching the domain name with high popularity. If the extension searched was already taken, you can register another unregistered extension.

However, new Estibot appraises the domains way lower than it was appraised with the old interface. For example, CompanyInvest.com is appraised for $830 in the old interface, the beta version only appraises it for only $260. So, there is a big difference. Hopefully, Estibot will continue serving as the best and free domain appraisal service with the new interface.

How to find Best Domains

January 11th, 2010

Acquiring domain names are getting harder and harder. Here are some tips from us to find the best domains on the internet.

  • Expired Domains: Whenever the owner of the domain doesn’t renew the domain after its expiration, the domain goes to a deletion process and the original owner is no longer the rightful owner of the domain. You can find the expired domains easily and you can easily find true gems from the expired domains. You can check JustDropped.com for the expired domains.
  • Ebay: Ebay is a good source of buying domains. There are plenty top rated domain sellers and you can buy domains without high risk by checking the reputation of the domain seller.
  • Forums: There are some popular forums that you can buy domains. The domain sellers ask very high prices though and you need to be careful examining who you are working. You need to check the reputation of the seller to make sure that the transaction is worry-free.
  • Sedo: Sedo.com is a great environment to buy/sell domains in the internet.

Next time, we will be discussing how to appraise the domain that you own.

Google bans WhyPark Sites. It is end of domain parking?

December 24th, 2009

Google gets even more pickier when it comes to selecting which sites will be in the search results and ranking. The domains can be used to display ads until they will be fully published. This feature is called domain parking and a lot of people are doing this a serious business. WhyPark gives another option to domain parking business where you can display ads as well as articles in the related topic. Somehow, Google started to ban these domains since the articles are considered as duplicated content. By banning, no information is shown in the search results and the domain becomes dead all the sudden.

To check whether the domain is banned by Google, you can do a search by typing “site:domain.com” on Google. If the domain is not appearing in the search results, it means the domain is indeed banned. One solution is to remove the ban is to “request reconsideration” in the Google Webmasters account.

How to Make Firefox Load Pages Faster

December 8th, 2009

from wikiHow – The How to Manual That You Can Edit
If you use broadband, you can make webpages load even faster in Firefox by using this "pipelining" trick. Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which can speed up page loading.

Steps

  1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return.
  2. Look for “network.http.keep-alive”. If it’s false, double-click that line and to change it to true.
  3. Make sure “network.http.version” is set to “1.1?.
  4. Look for “network.http.pipelining”. If it’s false, double-click that line and to change it to true.
  5. Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to true by double-clicking it.
  6. Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to 8 by double-clicking it. This means it will make 8 requests at once. There is no point setting it higher then 8 as it is capped at 8 max. The default value for this setting is 4.
  7. Optional: Right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it shows you the information it receives. It doesn’t actually make the page load faster, though.

Tips

  • Using the “Filter:” search box can make it easier to find the settings you’re looking for.
  • You can also run Firefox in your RAM (no reading from the HD means faster Firefox) by following this article.
  • If you have problems like slow down, pages not loading or images loading weird, just undo the tweaks in about:config
  • Firefox’s slow loading could be due to the auto update. Disabling the auto-update feature could lead to improved loading time. For disabling update go to Tools–> options –>advanced –> Update and uncheck all the selections and click OK. (Make sure that you update manually at least once a week).

Warnings

  • Take note that doing this can actually make certain pages run slower. However, it has potential to make much more pages load faster.
